Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar Duckworth has been dubbed “the new king of hip hop” and is famous for his unique brand of rap about Compton lifestyle and his “Shakespearean” style of lyricism.

Early Accomplishments

Although while in school, he was a very brilliant student, he started rapping at age 16 when he debuted his a mixtape Youngest Head Nigga in Charge using the moniker “K-Dot”. This release earned him local credit and a record label deal. 

He soon dropped a 26-track album Training Day in 2005.

Best Known For

With mega hits such as Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe, Swimming Pools (Drank), Humble, Loyalty, Poetic Justice and chart-topping albums such as To Pimp a Butterfly in 2015, DAMN. in 2017, Section.80 in 2011 and Good kid, m.A.A.d city in 2012, Lamar has been able to bag himself numerous awards including an impressive 12 Grammy Awards.

Lamar is straight. In 2015, he became engaged to his high school darling Whitney Alford whom he has been dating since 2005.

Family

He is son of Kenny Duckworth, who happens to be a gangster and Paula Oliver. He has five siblings and his cousin is NBA player Nick Young.

Religion

Lamar is an Evangelical Christian and he is very passionate about his faith as he often speaks publicly about God and his desire to live devoutly. He got converted after the death of a friend and got baptized in 2013. During a Halloween celebration in 2014, he even dressed up like Jesus.

When he was 8 years old, he decided he was going to be a rapper after he saw his heroes Tupac Shakur and Dr. Dre shoot the promo for their smash hit California Love in 1995.
