Mayte Garcia

Mayte Garcia is best known as a dancer but has had significant experience as a singer, actress and TV personality. 

Early Accomplishments

Starting to learn to belly dance at the age of 3, she was given the title of youngest professional belly dancer in the world at age 7 on the TV show, That’s Incredible.

When she was 16, her mom got Mayte’s audition tape to be watched by Prince who called her backstage after just 10 minutes. She joined NPG when she turned 18.

Best Known For

Between 1992 and 1996, she became a member of New Power Generation and went on Diamonds and Pearls Tour with Prince and became NPG’s art director in 1997.

She also choreographed Britney Spears’ famed performance at the 2001 MTV VMAs. She has had many guest roles on TV but has featured heavily on Hollywood Exes since 2012. 

Sexual Orientation

Mayte is straight. After dating for 4 years, she married Prince in 1996 but after troubles from child-bearing trials, they divorced in 2000.

She dated Wade Robson briefly in 2001 before she began to date Tommy Lee until 2003. She also dated Jimmy Federico shortly in 2003.

Family

She and her big sister, Janice are daughters of Puerto Rican parents, John and Janelle “Nelly” Garcia.

She had a son, Amiir with Prince but he died just 6 days old. In 2013, she adopted a girl named Gia.

Religion

Mayte is reportedly a Roman Catholic which is a common faith of people of her heritage.

Worth To Know

After just a week of her son’s death, she was due to appear on Oprah with her husband. They both honored the invitation but pretended their baby was still alive.

She is a PETA affiliate and unsurprisingly, a vegetarian and animal rights supporter.
