Kim Darby

Kim Darby is an amazing actress whose profound understanding of the art has even led her to teaching aspiring actors and directors. 

Early Accomplishments

Growing up with professional dancers as parents, she began dancing and singing at age 3 but changed focus to acting and gained admission into Tony Barr’s acting school at age 14.

She was 15 when she landed her debut role in an episode of Mr. Novak in 1963. Her film debut came 

Best Known For

She earned 3 award nominations for her work in True Grit in 1969 where she played a 14-year old despite being 21 years old at that time. She was also a Golden Globe nominee for Generations (1969) and a Primetime Emmy nominee for her role in Rich Man, Poor Man (1976).

Sexual Orientation

Kim is straight and has been married 4 times. Her first marriage was to James Stacy (1968 – 1979) and her second was with James Westmoreland in (1970). She was also married to Jack La Rue Jr. (1979 - 1980) and William Tennant (1981 – 1990). In between these, she has dated a few men such as Bruce Davison, Pete Duel, Andrews Stevens and most recently Johnny Crawford in 2007.

Family

Born as Deborah Zerby, she is the daughter of Jon and Inga Zerby (The Dancing Zerbys) and she had the comedy group, Wiere Brothers as her maternal uncles. She and John Stacy had a daughter in 1968 named Heather.

Kim is yet to discuss religion in any media outlet. She is either agnostic or just non-religious.

Worth To Know

Her dad nicknamed her Debby Zerby. She felt her name will not earn her serious acting roles, so she changed “Debby” to “Darby” and adopted the name of the most popular girl she knew, Kim.

She has taught acting and directing at UCLA for 15 years, quitting in 2004.
