John R. Nolan

John R. Nolan is the oldest member of the Nolan film family. The film and TV veteran actor has lived his life doing what he enjoys best; acting.

Early Accomplishments

His entertainment career did not start relatively early as he had to wait until 27 to make his screen debut in a 1965 episode of ITV Playhouse with a film debut in Bequest to the Nations coming 8 years after. Before then, he worked with the prestigious Royal Shakespeare Company for 2 years. 

Best Known For

Quite known for appearing in his nephews’ works such as playing a board member of Wayne Enterprises, Douglas Fredericks in the Batman trilogy (2005-2012) and 2008’s Gotham Central, he has mostly been involved as the main villain in seasons 2 to 5 of the TV series, Persons of Interest.

Sexual Orientation

John is straight. He has been enjoying marital bliss with the love of his life, Kim Hartman. They married each other in 1975 and have not been involved in any scandal ever since.

Family

Born in Westminster, London to English parents, he has a brother, Brendan. Hence, he is an uncle to celebrity filmmaker, Christopher and famed screenwriter, Jonathan. With his wife, he has 2 children; Tom Nolan and small-time actress Miranda Nolan.

John took a long hiatus from acting. It lasted 18 years from 1980, making a comeback as a policeman in The Following.

Another minor role he has played in his nephews’ works is a blind man in the 2017 box office hit, Dunkirk.
