Whoopi Goldberg

Whoopi Goldberg is an accomplished entertainer and one of the most famous around the world. She has dazzled the world as an actress, writer, producer, comedienne and TV host.

Early Accomplishments

She dropped out of high school and moved to California as a teenager. She worked several jobs such as bank teller, bricklayer and mortuary cosmetologist before joining Blake Street Hawkeyes theater group.

She also started to do stand-up comedy and started The Spook Show before she was transitioned to Broadway.

Best Known For

A member of the extremely exclusive EGOT club, Whoopi is known for such films like the Sister Act films (1992-1993), The Color Purple (1985) and Ghost (1990). She also played Guinan in Star Trek: The Next Generation film and TV series and voiced Shenzi the hyena in 1994’s The Lion King.

Family

She is born as Caryn Elaine Johnson to Baptist preacher Robert and mother Emma Johnson. Her parents are late and so is her older brother, Clyde. She is the mother of Alex Martin and a grandmother of Amarah, Jerzey and Mason. Through Amarah, Whoopi became a great-grandma to Charlie Rose in 2014.

Religion

She has described herself as Jewish-Catholic but this is an impossibility. Further investigations have revealed that she may be Catholic but not so religious.
