Alia Shawkat

Alia Shawkat is a beautiful and talented film and television actress. Armed with other artistic gifts, Alia is also a painter and to a lesser degree, a singer.

Early Accomplishments

She was only 10 years when she made her acting debut without any prior acting lessons, first in the 1999 film, Three Kings and later on in an episode of JAG.

She followed this up with appearance in an episode each of State of Grace, Presidio Med (both 2002), Without A Trace and Boomtown (both 2003) before landing her breakthrough role.

Best Known For

In 2003, Alia began playing Mae in Arrested Development (2003-06, 2013, 2018-19), earning her 3 SAG Award nominations and a Young Artist Award win.

She also starred in Whip It (2009), The To-Do List (2013), The Final Girls (2015) and in the sitcom, Search Party (2016-date).

Sexual Orientation

Alia is known to be a bisexual but keeps her romantic dealings away from the media. She is however known to have dated Jack Antonoff in 2009 and Michael Angarano in 2010.

Family

She is the only girl of the 3 children of Tony and Dina Shawkat. Her father is a Baghdad-born Iraqi and her maternal grandfather is Paul Burke.

Worth To Know

She was ardently into horseback riding while growing up.

Since filming Whip It together, she and Ellen Page have remained tight friends.
