Katherine Jenkins

Katherine Jenkins OBE, is regarded as the leading songstress and writer of mezzo-soprano classical music from Wales. 

Early Accomplishments

Taught to sing by her mother, she won her first singing competition aged 4. 

She joined RSCM Cathedral Singers when she was 11 and even became the winner of the prestigious St. Cecilia Award.

She also joined the Welsh National Youth Choir and has won 2 BBC choirgirl award, 1 BET choirgirl award and more including a scholarship to study at Royal Academy of Music at 17 years of age.

Best Known For

She has had 6 out of her 7 albums take top spot on UK classical charts with Premiere, her debut, becoming the fastest selling soprano album ever. 

She was the recipient of UK’s biggest classical record deal of £1 million before Warner Bros contracted her to the biggest classical deal ever, worth £5.3 million.

She very narrowly missed out on winning the 14th season of Dancing with the Stars in 2012.

Katherine is straight and is married to Hollywood man, Andrew Levitas since 2014 after a 5-month engagement. The couple began dating in 2013, almost 2 years after her publicized break-up with 2007 boyfriend, Gethin Jones following a 10 months engagement. 

She had also previously dated Steve Hart from 2001 to 2006. 

Family

She and her sister, Laura are children of Selwyn (died 1995/96 aged 70) and Susan Jenkins. 

She became a mother to Aaliyah in 2015 and then in 2018 to Xander.

Religion 

Katherine is a Christian who is believed to belong to the Church in Wales denomination.

Worth To Know

While on her way to perform for the troops in 2005, the helicopter she was riding in was fired upon by missiles but great flying heroics by the pilots averted the danger.

She performed at the Westminster Cathedral and the Sydney Opera House in 2003. The Queen Elizabeth II was in attendance at both events.
