Donald Sutherland

Accomplished actor, Donald Sutherland is one to call a veteran in the acting industry with a career lasting over half a century.

Early Accomplishments

Donald was only 14 years old when he got his first job working as a radio news reporter and later as a DJ.

He graduated college where he studied engineering and drama but the latter won him over and after studying dramatic arts further in London, he caught his first break in The Dirty Dozen in 1967.

Best Known For

Some of his most outstanding work has been in movies such as Path to War in 2002 and Citizen X in 1995. 

He is also famed for his role in the Hunger Games film series as well as movies such as Invasion of the Body Snatchers and National Lampoon’s Animal House, both in 1978.

On television, he was cast in action series Crossing Lines from 2013 to 2015.

Sexual Orientation

Donald is straight and has been married thrice. The first marriage was with Lois Hardwick in 1959 after they met in college, but it broke down in 1966. 

His second was to Shirley Douglas immediately after but this also broke down in 1970 after the birth of twins. 

He dated Jane Fonda after this for about a year before falling in love with Francine Racette and marrying her in 1972. 

Family

He was born to Frederick and Dorothy Sutherland (both late now) and is a brother to Betty and John. 

He fathers 5 children who are the twins Kiefer and Rachel, born in 1967 by Shirley while Roeg, Rossif and Angus were born by Francine. 

He is also a grandfather to Sarah and Theodore.

Religion 

Donald is an atheist.

Worth To Know

Donald is a 2-time Golden Globe Award Winner and an Officer of the Order Of Canada (OC).

He named all his sons after directors he had worked with.
