Stanley Lieber (Stan Lee) is the man behind the great Marvel cinematic universe as we know it. He was a comic book writer, editor, publisher and a TV host, film and voice actor and producer.
Early Accomplishments
At the age of 17, he landed a job as an office assistant at Timely Comics in 1939 and became an interim editor in 1941 at just 19 years.
His first comic book, Captain America Foils the Traitor’s Revenge was published in 1943, at a time when Stan was serving in the United States Army.
Best Known For
He is credited with the creation of superheroes such as Spider-Man, The Hulk, X-Men, Doctor Strange, Thor, Iron Man, Fantastic Four, Black Panther, etc.
He co-wrote some of their stories with Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby and others with his brother.
He is also famous for making several cameo appearances in the movies of his aforementioned creations, joking that his cameos are the reason the films are a big success.
Sexual Orientation
Stan was straight. In 1946, he met Joan Boocock whom he described as an incredible woman whom every man wanted to have.
They got married in December 1947 and they lived happily together until her death in 2017.
Family
He was born as the older son of Romanian immigrants, Jack and Celia Lieber.
His younger brother, Larry Lieber is also a comic book writer.
His marriage to Joan produced 2 daughters; the first being Joan Celia Lee, born in 1950 and the second being Jan Lee, born in 1953 but died 3 days later.

Stan has a Jewish heritage but he comes off as non-religious and has in fact, implied he is agnostic.

After he left Marvel, he wrote a comic Just Imagine series for DC Comics in 2001/2, re-imagining the superheroes’ background stories.
