Joe Namath

American football legend, actor and sportscaster, Joseph Namath a.k.a Broadway Joe is one of the pioneering members of the sportsperson turned thespian circle.

Early Accomplishments

Joe grew up with an ardent interest in sports and surpassed in every sport he participated in. 

During his teenage years, he became an outstanding football, baseball and basketball player at school.

When he left high school, he got several offers to play professional baseball but the aim of going to college eventually prompted him to play football for the University of Alabama.

Best Known For

He is perhaps remembered for causing nationwide hysteria when he guaranteed the New York Jets triumph before their 1969 Super Bowl III game, which he championed and won for the team. The hall of famer’s career is laden with achievements too many to mention.

After cementing his status as a sports icon, he transitioned into acting and appeared in various movies including hosting a show and doing TV adverts. 

He also became a hospitality businessman, author and broadcaster.

Joe is straight. His relationship history has seen him date a number of women such as Phyllis Davis, and Randi Oakes. 

He and Deborah Mays met in 1983 at a voice class and married her in 1984. After 16 years, they split in 2000 and he has been involved with a few women such as Kim Basinger since then.

Family

He is the youngest child of János Namath and Juhász and has 3 brothers who are John, Robert and Frank Namath and an adopted sister, Rita Sims. 

He fathers 2 daughters with his ex-wife who are Jessica and Olivia, the latter who bore Natalia, his first grandchild, in 2007.

He was born to Roman Catholic parents.

He spoke about his struggles with alcohol addiction and his publicized 2003 on-air misbehavior in his book, Namath which he published in 2006.

4 decades since leaving the University of Alabama to pursue a pro career, he finally earned a degree in 2007.
