Who is Wellington Mara?

Wellington “The Duke” Mara is one of the most significant and symbolic figures in NFL history. He was co-owner and the president of the New York Giants and also fathered its current president.

Early Accomplishments

Mara schooled at Loyola High School in New York and the Jesuit University of New York known as Fordham where he scouted players for his father’s team. After his Fordham education, he became his father’s administrative assistant and club treasurer.

Best Known For

He served the NY Giants as a general manager and vice president. Ever since he took over presidency of the club, they have accrued the third highest number of wins in NFL history with 6 titles (including 2 Super Bowl wins) and 13 division triumphs.

He was also very influential behind the working formula that all NFL teams should share TV broadcast revenue equally.

Wellington is straight. He was married to Ann Mumm for 52 years until his demise.

He was the younger son of Tim and Elizabeth Mara, his elder brother being Jack. He is survived by 7 daughters and 4 sons, including John and 42 grandchildren including actresses Rooney Mara and Kate Mara.
