Montgomery Clift

Montgomery Clift was a prominent American film star of the twentieth century. 

Early Accomplishments

Being a teenager, Clift took up acting in a Sarasota theatrical company. 

After the family moved to Massachusetts, his mom convinced Clift to take acting professionally and he later got his role in well-known Fly Away Home. 

Best Known For

Montgomery Clift possessed a unique talent. His professional acting manner brought him two Oscar nominations as the best film actor both in 1951 for the role in A Place in the Sun and in 1953 for From Here to Eternity. 

Sexual Orientation

This point of Clift’s biography is the most controversial. Initially, Montgomery Clift was claimed to be a gay, but after his death, his brother Brooks admitted that Clift was bisexual and loved both women and men. (Source: www.vanityfair.com, 09/23/2014)

According to numerous biographies, Montgomery turned to alcoholism because of his orientation. That was a shame that he had to endure and hide so that the actor had to subdue his true nature.

Worth to Know

The actor had many celeb friends. Among them were Elizabeth Taylor who starred with Clift in A Place in the Sun that was released in 1951 and legendary Marilyn Monroe who was his co-star in The Misfits released in 1961. There’s even information that Taylor had an affair with Montgomery, but after the discovery of his true orientation they broke up and remained life-long friends. In 1956, the actor got into a horrifying car accident. He crashed into a telephone pole, and as a result, he underwent numerous surgeries on his face. 

In 1966, at the age of 45, Montgomery Clift was found dead by his partner Lorenzo James in their common house. At that time, he was no more accepted as an actor and a professional because of drug and alcohol addiction.
