Eric Clapton

Legendary guitarist, Eric Clapton is recognized by Rolling Stones as the 2nd greatest of all time.

Early Accomplishments

After receiving a cheap acoustic guitar as a gift for his 13th birthday, he began playing at 15 and by the time he was 16, he had gotten so good that he began busking.

At 17, he was employed by The Roosters and after 18 months, he joined his second band, The Yardbirds with whom he had his first hit with, For Your Love (1965).

Best Known For

He is the only 3-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee; as a member of The Yardbirds, Cream and as a solo artist also winning 18 Grammy awards with songs such as Crossroads (1968 with Cream), Little Wing (1970) and Tears In Heaven (1992).

Eric is straight and has been involved with more than 4 dozen women but has been married twice; first to Pattie Boyd from 1979 to 1988 and then to Melia McEnery since 2002.

Family

Although his parents are Edward Fryer and Patricia Clapton, he grew up with his grandmother Rose Clapton and her husband Jack Clapp and until he was old, believed they were his parents.

He fathers 3 daughters with wife Melia; Julie Rose (born 2001), Ella May (2003) and Sophie Belle (2005) and has Isaac Bartlett as a grandson.

Religion

Eric grew up in the Church of England but turned to hedonism during much of his career but in 1987, he found Jesus and became a born-again Christian.

Worth To Know

He had a son, Conor with Lory Del Santo. He died in 1991 aged 4½ years after falling 53 floors through an open bedroom window.

He has performed over 200 times at the famous Royal Albert Hall, calling it his “front room”.

He became a CBE title holder in 2004.
