He began to sing professionally in 1975 and released an album that year titled Michael Bolotin. The following year, he released Everyday of My Life but his next release waited until 1983.

He was also the frontman of a short-lived hard rock band called Blackjack and released 2 albums; Blackjack in 1979 and Worlds Apart in 1980.
