Sam Mendes

Sam Mendes is an Oscar-winning British film and stage director and producer.

Early Accomplishments

He played cricket while in high school and at Cambridge University, he joined the Marlowe Society to direct various plays.

At 23 years, he worked as an assistant director at the Chichester Festival Theatre and in 1989, directed his first West End play, The Cherry Orchard.

Best Known For

Known for directing 007 films, Skyfall and Spectre and winning 3 Academy and 2 Golden Globe Awards for, he has won 10 more for directing and producing films like American Beauty (1999), Road to Perdition (2002) and Revolutionary Road (2008).

He also produced horror series, Penny Dreadful and won 19 awards for his 8 plays.

Sam is straight and is married to Alison Balsom since 2017. He was previously married to Kate Winslet but their 2003 marriage ended in 2010. He dated Rebecca Hall for 5 years after that before meeting his current wife.

Family

He is the son of Jameson Mendes and Valerie Barnett who separated when Sam was very little. He is the father of Joe, born in 2003 by Kate Winslet and Phoebe, born in 2017 by Alison Balsom.

While his father is a Roman Catholic and his mother is a Jew, Sam grew up with mom and identifies with Judaism but has revealed he is non-religious.
