Stephanie Mills

Stephanie Mills is often regarded as one of the best R&B singers of the past 50 years. The singer-songwriter is also a great stage actress.

Early Accomplishments

She was only a child when she began singing in her church choir and appeared in Maggie Flynn, a Broadway musical when she was 9.

At 11, she won Apollo Theater’s Amateur Night for 6 consecutive weeks and soon began to open for Isley Brothers. She earned a record deal at 16 and sang I Knew It Was Love in 1973.

Best Known For

She quickly rose to prominence during the 80s with hits such as I Have Learned To Respect The Power Of Love, Something In The Way (You Make Me Feel), Home and won a Grammy in 1981 for Never Knew Love Like This Before.

Asides singing, she is also popular for her role as Dorothy in the musical, The Wiz in 1975.

Stephanie is straight and has been married three times. Her first was to Jeffrey Daniel for 3 years from 1980, her second was for 2 years to Dino Meminger from 1989 and her 3rd was with Michael Saunders from 1993 to 2001. At some point in between, she had a brief romance with Michael Jackson.

Family

She is the daughter of Joseph and Christine Mills. She has a son, Farad Mills and Meminger is touted to be his father.

Religion

Stephanie is devout Christian. She began singing in church and later in her career, she switched her genre to gospel music.

Her son is living with Down syndrome, a condition he was born with.

She caught media attention in 2018 when she fired critical responses to Sam Smith’s in response to his Instagram post about how he does not like Michael Jackson. She even called him a “one hit wonder”.
