After graduating from college, he did odd jobs such as waiting tables and plumbing works to raise money for his modelling dream. He went to Paris in 1993 and soon after to Milan where he quickly rose to stardom, featuring in campaigns for Guess, Tommy Hilfiger, Ray Ban and Hugo Boss. 

His acting debut came in 1995 when he starred in TV series High Sierra Search and Rescue.

He became Hollywood famous after fans adored his work in Sex and the City in 2003 and also its 2008 and 2010 movies. He has also done outstanding work in My Bollywood Bride in 2006 and Mr. Brooks in 2007.
