Martha Plimpton

Martha Plimpton is born an actress, taking acting genes from both parents. She is so good that she shuffles between Broadway and Hollywood. She has also been known to sing and worked as a model.

Early Accomplishments

After getting enrolled in an acting workshop at 8, she made her debut screen feature in a small part in Rollover in 1981. She also appeared in a series of advertisements for fashion label, Calvin Klein.

Best Known For

Her acting breakthrough came in 1985 when she starred in The Goonies. She also gave an award-winning performance in 1988’s Running on Empty and in Parenthood in 1989.

More recently, she has given riveting performances in series such as The Good Wife, The Real O’Neals and more particularly in Raising Hope.

She made her theatrical debut in a play titled The Libertine in 1996 that fetched her a National Medal of Arts award.

Sexual Orientation

She is straight. She was engaged to Jon Patrick Walker in 1995 after dating for a year. Their engagement lasted a year and ended after a scheduled wedding did not materialise.

She also dated River Phoenix in 1986 for 3 years and Fred Armisen in 2005 for a year. 

Family

Martha was born out of wedlock by the romance between Shelley Plimpton and Keith Carradine, son of John Carradine.

Her half-siblings are Cade and Sorel Carradine.

Her uncles are actors David and Robert Carradine.

Religion

While there are some reports suggesting that Martha is a Christian, some others seem to imply that she is a Jew. Either way, Martha seem to not be fond of any religion.

She is currently working on a non-profit program called 52nd Street Project which pairs pro thespians with children to mentor them on theatre arts.

She had 2 abortion, one when she was 19 years old.
