Edith Piaf was a legendary French singer. 

Early Accomplishments

Edith began singing during her father's acrobatic performances when she was 14 years old. However, heк career kicked off after she was encouraged to sing at a club when she was 20 years old. 

Best Known For

Edith left an imprint on the music industry as one of the greatest singers of the 20th century. Over 4 decades after her death, the award-winning movie La Vie en rose which was based on her life through one of her songs reminded her generation of the legacy she left as well as making her known to this present generation.

Edith was straight. She spent most of her childhood in a brothel which made her weak when it came to the opposite sex. Throughout her life, she dated various men and was married twice. Among all the numerous men she had been with, she loved no other like the boxer Marcel Cerdan, who had a wife and children during the time they dated. The French film Édith et Marcel which was released in 1983 was based on their love life. 

Family

Edith's father Louis Alphonse Gassion, was a performer. Edith had a child who unfortunately died at an early age of 2. 

Religious Belief

Edith was a Christian. She got associated with the Catholic faith after she was miraculously healed from blindness at the age of 7 when she went on a Saint Thérèse of Lisieux pilgrimage. From that moment until the end of her life, Edith remained very devoted to her faith and never performed without wearing her cross.
