Fred Astaire

Fred Astaire was a successful American stage and film dancer. 

Early Accomplishments

From his early childhood, Fred started dancing with his older sister Adele. 

In 1917, the two brought their dancing to the Broadway after touring for a while.

When Fred decided to test himself in movies, he got a small role in Dancing Lady in 1933. His partner was Joan Crawford. 

Best Known For

In 1927, the siblings starred in Funny Face musical. 

Fred Astaire appeared in The Gay Divorcee and Top Hat with his partner Ginger Rogers. Together they became the most popular dancing couple. 

From the later period of his career Easter Parade and Funny Face with Audrey Hepburn are the most famous. 

Religious Beliefs

Fred’s mother belonged to the Lutheran church, while his father was Catholic. As for Fred himself, from his early years he was Episcopalian. He was connected to the Church of the Transfiguration. By the way, Fred’s father was Jewish. (Source: Adherents.com)

Fred Astaire was straight. He was married twice. His first wife was Phyllis Potter. After 21 years of their marriage, she died and Fred stayed single. At the age of 81 he got married again to a woman 45 years younger than him.

In his late years, Fred Astaire weighed 134 pounds eating just one boiled egg for breakfast to keep his weight at the same level.
