George Kennedy

George Kennedy was an American TV and movie actor. He was quite productive during his career taking part in more than 100 projects. George passed away from heart disease in 2016.

After serving in an army during World War II, George began to pursue an acting career. His first important appearance on television was the part in The Phil Silvers Show (1995-1959).

Kennedy’s big-screen debut took place in 1961 with the movie The Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come.

Best Known For

Among Kennedy’s most famous projects are Charade (1963), The Good Guys and the Bad Guys (1969), and Airport (1970) movies.

He acquired an Oscar as a Best Supporting Actor for the part in the Cool Hand Luke movie (1967). 

George is straight. He had three wives and four marriages. He married and divorced his second wife Norma twice. Kennedy settled down with Joan McCarthy in 1978. They stayed together until she passed away in 2015. 

Kennedy’s whole family was involved in show business. His father George Kennedy was a musician. He died prematurely when the actor was still an infant. His mother Helen, who came from the family of a German immigrant, was a ballet dancer.

George had 6 children, a son Kevin Kennedy with his first wife Dorothy Gillooly, son Christopher and daughter Karianna with his second wife Norma, daughter Shauna, and two other children with Joan (all three were adopted).

The couple also had to adopt their granddaughter Taylor.

George did not make any public statements on his religious views.

He used to be the oldest living Academy Award winner.

Since World War II, Kennedy has been attracted to Japanese culture.

George has his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
