Chris Squire

Arguably the finest bass guitarist of our time, English singer-songwriter Chris Squire was an exceptional musician and remained the only persistent member of Yes.

Early Accomplishments

Chris showed interest in music from a little age, singing soprano at the church choir at just 6 years old and his school choir.

He worked at a music store and bought a bass guitar when he was 16. He learnt to play, joined The Selfs and started having gigs soon after. 

He formed Yes four years later at 22.

Best Known For

Chris spent 47 years with the group Yes until his demise. 

Asides from his iconic bass solo in Schindleria Praematurus in 1971, Chris will always be remembered for songs such as Roundabout in 1971, The Gates of Delirium in 1974 and Silently Falling in 1975. 

He has 2 solo albums which are Fish Out of Water in 1975 and Christmas album, Chris Squire’s Swiss Choir in 2007.

Sexual Orientation

Chris was straight and was married thrice. 

He met Nikki in 1970 at a London club and they got married 2 years on. After 2 children and adopting Nikki’s daughter from a previous relationship, they divorced in 1987. 

He married actress Melissa Morgan in 1993 but divorced in 2004. 

He then married Scotland in 2004 and they were together until his death. 

Family

He was the child of Peter and Joanne Squire. 

He fathered 4 daughters and a son in his life. With Nikki, he fathered Chandrika and Camille while adopting Carmen as his. 

With Melissa, he fathered Cameron and fathered Xilan with Scotland. 

Religion 

Chris was a Christian but it is unsure whether he remained devout until his demise.

Worth To Know

He died in his home as a result of acute erythroid leukaemia which is a blood cancer.

He was nicknamed Fish.

He tried being vegan in the 70s but it lasted only 5 years.
