J.R. Smith

Earl Joseph Smith III, known simply as J.R. Smith, is a well-known basketballer who currently plays for the Cavs. His exploits have been laden with many controversies on and off the court.

Early Accomplishments

He spent 5 years in high school where he played baseball, football and basketball but decided to focus on the latter in his senior year.

He shared the MVP award at the 2004 McDonald All-American with Dwight Howard and declared himself eligible for draft instantly. 

The Hornets recruited him in 2004 as the 18th pick.

Best Known For

He spent 5 years with Denver Nuggets from 2006, 3 years with New York Knicks from 2012 and even a year with Chinese side, Zhejiang Golden Bulls in 2011/2012 but his career greatest moment was his 2016 NBA title with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Smith is straight and seems to have a thing for singers and reality stars. He has dated K. Michelle, Chanel Iman, Tahiry Jose, Solange Knowles and Britani Girard amidst a brief romantic affair with Rihanna between 2012 and 2013. 

After hooking up in 2013, he and Jewel Harris have been married since 2016 and have 3 daughters together.

Family

Born into a family of 6 athlete kids of Earl Jr. and Ida Smith, he has 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Dimitrius plays college football, Chris is a pro-baller (and were together at Knicks for a while) and Stephanie throws shot put. His kids are Peyton, Demi and Dakota.

J.R. Smith is a Christian by all indications. 

Worth To Know

In 2009, he served 24 days jail time and 500 hours of community service for an auto crash he caused in 2007 that resulted in the death of his passenger.

He gave an emotional speech to honor his parents during the Cavs NBA victory postgame.
