He was still in a relationship with Olivia when he allegedly went missing. Patrick and Olivia were dating for about nine years. He was born in Korea and became an American after he was adopted by an American couple. 

This unfortunate incident first led to a conclusion that he was dead after most sources assumed he was lost at sea. After he was proven to be alive, yet another contention arose. The Investigators believe he intentionally planned his disappearance to escape child support as this incident occurred shortly after he had filed for bankruptcy and was thirty thousand dollars deep in debt.
